ttartisan 7.5mm f2 vs samyang 8mm f2.8 fisheye2

Review fisheye TTartisan 7.5mm

Fisheye lenses or fisheye, as they used to say, are quite specific due to their characteristics. Nevertheless, a huge variety of them began to appear recently. This review will focus on a relatively new TTartisan 7.5mm f2 FishEye.

What are the advantages of the TTartisan 7.5mm f2?

Everything is simple here. This is an inexpensive lens with an unusually high aperture ratio for its class. The aperture of f2.0 allows shooting in lower light, and also blurs the background quite well when focusing at close distances.

Externally

This is a metal lens that is tightly assembled. Feels weighty, although by the standards of a full frame it weighs nothing - 370g.

An ND 1000 filter is supplied with the lens, which is screwed on from the side of the bayonet mount. With this filter, you can shoot long exposures in daylight. This technique allows you to get unusual effects in photographs. Landscape / architecture photographers will appreciate this opportunity. I want to note that when using the ND filter, focusing at infinity on the lens scale shifts from 1m to about 30cm.

Image quality

Fisheye is an ultra wide angle lens without any distortion correction. Therefore, you will get images with a specific perspective. But, as far as detail is concerned, it is always very high in the center and in the middle of the frame. Sharpness is weak at the edges at open apertures. At f8-f10, the lens is super-sharp from edge to edge.

By the way, distortion can be corrected and ultra-wide. I show how this is done in photos and videos in my video review at the end of the article.

The minimum focusing distance for this lens is 15cm, which allows you to do almost macro photography with a strong background blur. According to this parameter, the TTartisan 7.5mm f2 is very different from the well-proven Samyang 8mm f2.8 FishEye, which has an MDF of about 0cm.

Looking at the photo below, I myself am surprised that this was filmed with a fish-eye.

By the way, this lens still copes very well with astrophotography... The combination of ultra-wide angle and high aperture allows you to take very interesting photographs of the sky.astro photography on fisheyeTotal

Overall, the TTartisan 7.5mm f2 FishEye is a very positive experience. The lens can do much more than its counterparts, while it costs quite reasonable money. I recommend to everyone. I decided to sell my Samyang 8mm f2.8 FishEye in favor of the new TTartisan 7.5mm f2 FishEye.

Venus Optics unveils 3 wide-angle lenses for Canon RF and Nikon Z

Chinese premium optics manufacturer Venus Optics has released 3 existing lenses on other systems for Nikon Z-mount and Canon RF-mount. These are the models:

  • Laowa 24mm F / 14 2x Macro Probe - $ 1950
  • Laowa 4mm F / 2.8 Fisheye - $ 250
  • Laowa 9mm F / 2.8 Zero-D - $ 650

All of these lenses are non-autofocus. Previously, they could be bought on Sony E-mount, but now users of Nikon and Canon mirrorless cameras can also enjoy high-quality widths.

I previously had review on Laowa 14mm f4 Zero-D and I must admit that the quality of the optics is very high. This lens is optically much better than the new Canon RF 16mm f2.8 or Samyang RF 14mm f2.8. But without autofocus than ultra wide angle can easily sacrifice.

Laowa lenses have established themselves as high quality optics and an adequate alternative to native lenses in various directions.

Fujifilm XF 18mm f / 1.4 R LM WR wide-angle review

Fujinon XF 18mm f / 1.4 R LM WR - Medium wide angle crop lens from Fujifilm.

Angle of view 18mm on crop corresponds to 27mm on full frame... This is a comfortable focal length. You will almost always have everything in the frame, while the corners will not stretch too much, as is the case on wider lenses.

At the same time, the lens has a very high aperture of f1.4, which will allow you to shoot in almost any lighting conditions without using a tripod. Although I personally still insist on tripod for landscape photography.

The combination of 18mm angle of view and f1.4 aperture results in a fairly large depth of field despite f1.4. If you are shooting a landscape, everything will be sharp. If you still want to achieve the effect hips, then it is worth shooting large - from a distance of up to half a meter.

The Fujifilm XF 18mm f / 1.4 R LM WR lens has a wide range of applications. It is useful for any kind of shooting indoors, outdoors, video filming on a steadicam, street photography, and can be used as a webcam on a table. There are a lot of options.

Outwardly, this is a medium-sized lens weighing 390g.

The Fujifilm X-S10 sits organically on the camera. It is not felt in the bag by weight.

Autofocus is fast and barely audible. On video, focus is also excellent. Fujifilm XF 18mm f / 1.4 can be safely recommended to videographers.

The lens has excellent sharpness. Covering the aperture is not for the sake of improving image quality, but for controlling the depth of field. Chromatics are practically absent, which is very pleasant for a fast wide-angle lens.
