fujifilm x100v vs xe4 vs xs10

Review-comparison Fujifilm X100V vs Fujifilm X-E4 vs Fujifilm X-S10

I'll tell you about three modern cameras from Fujifilm.

Where do we start?

  • First, you need to understand that they all shoot the same way. Don't assume that the X100V has any difference in photo / video quality from the X-E4 or X-S10. They have the same sensors and the same image processing / reading. They will differ in the picture ONLY due to different lenses.
  • Secondly, the main differences between them relate exclusively to design. He will be discussed in this article.

In general, all these cameras are positioned by the manufacturer as amateur in the Fujifilm line, therefore, in each of them, the functionality is cut down on trifles. So for example, X100V writes video in fragments of 10 minutes (X-S10 writes video for 30 minutes). All of these cameras have F-Log, but it is written in 8 bits, so when you apply loot, an unpleasant posterization can appear. To summarize, the restrictions apply to video filming and buttons. For a photographer, the possibilities are exactly the same. The differences, again, are in the design. Fujifilm's Crop Cameras for Maximum Video Capability are Presented in Models X-T3 and X-T4.

Fujifilm X100V

X100V can be called X-Pro3 with a non-replaceable lens.

  1. This camera, like the X-Pro3, is equipped with a hybrid rangefinder optical / electronic viewfinder.
  2. The second feature is a fixed 23mm f2.0 pancake lens.
  3. The third feature is the built-in electronic neutral density (ND) filter, which dampens approximately 3 stops of exposure. Nice to play with, but if you really need an ND filter, you need to buy it and wind it up separately.

fujifilm x100v

The coolness of this lens is in its compactness. Similar Fujinon XF 23mm f2.0 larger if purchased separately.

fujifilm x100vThe lens is similar in form factor to the XF 27mm f2.8, supplied as a kit for the X-E4, but it has a faster f2.0 aperture and a slightly wider angle of view.

Fujifilm X100V has a flip-up screen that moves in only one plane.

fujifilm x100vI was pleased with the autofocus mode switch on the side of the camera. The X-E4 and X-S10 lack it.

Fujifilm X-E4

The X-E4 is the most compact of the cameras in this roundup. At the same time, she has the least comfortable grip - the payback for compactness. But this camera can be put in your pocket if you use the stock Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 lens.

As you can see in the photo below, the screen can be folded back to shoot video in selfie mode.

fujifilm x-e4All three cameras are equipped with USB-type C, micro Hdmi and microphone input. I would like to remind you that the model X-pro3 lacks HDMI output.
The Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 lens disappointed me with focusing in video mode. Sitting down and writing a video blog with AF tracking with these optics is a bad idea. The focus is constantly walking back and forth. For photographers, AF is buzzing, but it will work :)

By the way, my X-E4 overheated while recording 4K video after 19 and a half minutes. But this is not a bad result considering that the X-E3 only withstood about 7 minutes of 4K video recording.

Fujifilm X-E4 also received a very minimalistic design. Here they removed the wheel under the thumb (in the X-E3 it was) and the AF type switching in front. Buttons for setting everything in a row are desperately lacking, but enough for amateur photography.

fujifilm x-e4 buttons

Fujifilm X-S10

The X-S10 is positioned by the manufacturer as a blogging camera for video recording. So it is.

fujifilm x-s10

But it will also delight photographers with a comfortable grip. I find the grip on this camera to be the most comfortable of Fujifilm's crop cameras. Even the X-T4 holds up worse than the X-S10. But this same grip makes the camera a little bigger than the X-E4 and you definitely won't put it in your pocket.

A very nice difference between the X-S10 is a fully rotatable screen, which is a rarity for Fujifilm cameras.

fujifilm x-s10This screen makes the model really attractive for video content creators. It barely overheats when recording in 4K. I had a couple of cases in six months, but this was due to the included matrix stabilizer... By the way, I forgot to say that it is here, but in the other two models it is not. Well, okay. I don't pay much attention to this technology, because it does not fundamentally change anything.

In terms of controls, the X-S10 has quite a few buttons relative to the X100V and X-E4. But after X-T3 I personally lacked many controls. But I'm used to it. So, everything is learned by comparison.

There is no such thing as the best camera. For example, I sincerely do not consider the X-T4 the best in the lineup, although it is a flagship with the maximum of everything that is possible for a crop. Moreover, the X-T4 is the leader among crop cameras not only by Fujifilm, but also among other brands. But for me this camera is too big and bulky. The cameras in this review are much more compact and lightweight.

The choice of a specific model depends on your needs and requirements. And also from such a factor as simply like / dislike, lies in the hand / does not lie in the hand.

Pergear 10mm f8 fisheye review

I'll tell you about the most compact lens I've ever reviewed. Pergear 10mm f8 fisheye significantly less than Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM or even less cropped Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8. This is a really small lens.

pergear 10mm f2.8 fish-eye vs fujinon 27mm f2.8

Pergear 10mm f8 fisheye comes in a small box that reminds me of a box to light filters.

pergear 10mm f2.8 fish-eye

At the time of writing the review was available for sale Pergear 10mm f8 fisheye for the following mounts:

I tested on Fujifilm X-S10.

pergear 10mm f8 fisheye

What is this lens?

The title indicates that it is fish-eye... As if yes, but not quite. The angle of view is wide, but it does not reach a full-fledged fish. Distortion is present, but again not to the extent that the same Samyang 8mm f2.8 fisheye.

I took a few frames to show this difference:

pergear vs samyang

Incidentally, white balance settings were the same. Such a noticeable difference in color temperature due to different optics.

Can be used simply as a super-compact and inexpensive wide-angle. Distortion can be corrected in Lightroom for an almost even image. Why almost? Because there is no profile for this lens, and correction from other fish-eye lenses does not always work completely correctly.

This is how the photo looks after the distortion correction.

pergear test

Manual focusing. Focusing is done by moving a small lever with a stroke of approximately 45 degrees. Not a very accurate instrument, but given the wide angle and f8, it's not difficult. If you shoot landscapes, you can work at infinity all the time.

pergear 10mm f8

Aperture is always constant f8... During the day, there are no problems. In the evening or in a dark room, you only have to take pictures with a tripod. Video in the evening would be a bad idea with this lens.

Image quality.

The Pergear 10mm f8 behaves differently depending on the focusing distance. At infinity, the lens is very sharp almost over the entire field of the frame, which is good news. At the minimum focusing distance (about which there is not even a hint of bokeh), the lens turns into a soft-focusing lens. I would not say that this is a big drawback for such glass. By the way, I liked it for taking selfies with outstretched arms, it is quite convenient for both photos and videos.

It should be noted that even at its dark / closed aperture, this lens has a noticeable vignetting.

Considering the price and compactness of this lens, I can safely recommend it to a wide range of photographers. It is worth trying, this is an interesting lens that has no analogues and even more so for such a ridiculous price.

This lens left a much more positive impression on me than Pergear 12mm f2which has strong optical problems.

Canon 850D vs Fujifilm X-E4 review

Looking at these characteristics, you can understand that Fujifilm X-E4 - a much more sophisticated camera. In almost every parameter, it surpasses the initial Kenons. But you have to understand that this is a more expensive camera and a more expensive system. If the difference in price between the Canon 850D and the Fujifilm X-E4 may seem insignificant against the background of the advantages of a mirrorless camera, then the difference in price of cropped Canon EF-S optics and Fujinon optics will be quite tangible. However, the X-E4 is usually taken with the kit Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 and is not soared (better to take with the second version of the pancake). The X-E4 is such a high-tech soap box that you can put in your pocket and carry with you wherever you go.

Canon 850D vs 250D vs Fujifilm X-E4 review

Inexpensive DSLRs from Canon have a more user-friendly design, a bunch of buttons, a full-touch screen, very capacious batteries... The Canon 850D and 250D are easier to learn and can handle a wider range of tasks. Yes and choice of optics much wider and more economical.

Canon 850D vs 250D vs Fujifilm X-E4 review

On kenon DSLRs you can bomb the gardens, shoot cheap commerce, attach a bunch of used optics with Canon EF mount and enjoy savings at every step. These are the most economical options among modern cameras. They can also write 4K, albeit with a strong crop and lousy autofocus. Fuijfilm is more of a fun and entertainment camera for those who are willing to pay for it. It feels more expensive and premium in the hand. The buttons are not intuitive, but you will get used to it over time. The logic is there and you can configure this camera for your convenience.

These devices are designed for different consumers. In general, as they say, everything is tailored to your tasks.
